Revitalizing the Art of Pointed Toe Moccasins

Returning to Tradition: Revitalizing the Art of Pointed Toe Moccasins features 7 pairs of pointed toe moccasins created by Métis artists from British Columbia. All artists in this exhibition were participants of a pointed toe moccasin heritage arts mentorship taught by artist Gregory Scofield and hosted by Métis Nation of British Columbia’s (MNBC) Ministry of Culture, Heritage and Language. Over two months in multiple virtual and one in-person workshop, participants learned about the history of pointed toe moccasins and how to create pointed toe moccasins. The moccasins are constructed with traditionally tanned moose hide and melton wool stroud. The moccasins were then showcased by the Amelia Douglas Institute in an online exhibition.
